Carrying out a pentest is an essential part of improving your company's online resilience. But what does a pentest actually involve? And the question we get frequently... What is the pentest cost? In this blog article we'll answer these questions and explain what carrying out a pentest involves, and what a pentest costs.

What is a pentest?

A pentest is a simulation of an actual cyberattack in which the software and systems are tested for (technical) security risks, also known as vulnerabilities. These tests are carried out by a pentest company with the goal of mapping out potential dangers to your organization.

Ian van der Wurff, Ethical hacker

The pentest consists of a thorough analysis of your software and systems. Think of testing your website(s), company network, or mobile application(s). The ethical hackers at Tozetta use various tools, techniques, and methods to identify and report vulnerabilities at an early stage. The final report is delivered to you so the vulnerabilities can be resolved. You can fix these yourself, or with your existing IT or cybersecurity partner.

What does a pentest cost?

All well and good, but what is the pentest cost? Makes sense, as an organization you want to know whether this fits within your budget or not. The cost of a pentest can vary enormously. This depends on the scope of your assignment. At Tozetta we always try to find out what you actually need help with. This is to prevent parts being investigated during the pentest that aren't relevant to your organization.

As you can understand, it depends heavily on how many hours you need a pentester or ethical hacker. The more hours, the sharper the rate. In the current market, you can assume a pentest rate varies between €125 and €200 per hour. However, this depends strongly on all kinds of factors. On our site we have a number of standard packages with which you can immediately see the pentest cost (or make an estimate).

How much does a pentest cost at Tozetta

It largely depends on the size and complexity of your software and systems. We can help determine the scope and size of the test by carrying out a QuickScan. As mentioned earlier, this is free and non-binding. The QuickScan results in a quote, and as an organization Tozetta is often between €125 & €150 per hour for a one-off pentest. The hourly rate strongly depends on the duration and complexity of the pentest. For example, the pentest cost per hour for a 3-day assignment is higher than the pentest cost per hour for a 4-week assignment.

Don't have time or need for a QuickScan? We also have a number of standard pentest packages that we offer on our pentest page. Of course we prefer to have a conversation, but sometimes a standard package is the best solution for your organization!

Continuous pentesting at Tozetta

We often hear that carrying out a pentest is a snapshot in time. This is certainly the case, but it doesn't detract from the pentest's value. A one-off assignment provides insights and raises security awareness within the organization. Because if you never carry out a pentest, existing vulnerabilities remain present in your software and systems.

A continuous process brings additional benefits. Besides flexible monthly pentest hours, we also offer pentest subscriptions including a security monitoring tool. This tool scans your internal network and/or website(s) 24/7 for hackers, vulnerabilities, and other security issues. Within a subscription form and in combination with this tool, we of course offer sharper pentest prices.
